Are you gearing up for a roof replacement? It’s a significant investment in your home’s longevity and structural integrity. However, it’s not just about hiring the right roofing company; preparation plays a crucial role in ensuring a smooth and successful project. At A.E. Roofing & Contracting, we understand the importance of proper preparation and aim to guide you through the process. Here’s what you need to know to prepare for a roof replacement and what to expect during the project.
Ensure Items Are Secure Inside and Out: Before the roofing crew arrives, inspect your home’s interior and remove any loosely hung items from your walls. Similarly, check the exterior of your home and consider removing hanging plants, wind chimes, or decorations that might be impacted by the construction process.
Clear Yard Ornaments: Remove any yard ornaments or decorations that could obstruct the roofing crew’s access to your roof or pose a hazard during the replacement process.
Prepare Unfinished Ceiling Areas: If you have an unfinished ceiling area in your garage or barn, ensure it’s clear of vehicles or valuable items stored in your attic, as materials can fall through the cracks, spacing, and ridge areas and land on things below. The same goes for skylight areas. If they’re being replaced, there is now an opening on the roof to the inside, and granules or materials can blow in or fall in, so it’s best to move things from those areas to prepare for an easy clean-up after completion. The roofing process can create vibrations, so it’s best to remove items stored in these areas.
Clear Space for Material Delivery: Before the delivery of roofing materials and equipment, make sure to move vehicles away from the designated drop-off area to avoid being blocked in. as well as an area up against the home or business for the dumpster/trailers. This ensures smooth and efficient material delivery.
Provide Adequate Debris Clearance: Roof replacement involves the removal of old materials, which can result in falling debris. Clear space around your property to accommodate any potential debris and ensure the safety of your surroundings.
Protect Landscaping and A.C. Units: While we use tarps and plywood to protect your landscaping and air conditioning units, please understand that roofing is a construction project, and some minor damage to landscaping may occur. We strive to minimize any impact on your property.
Stay Aware of Nails: Throughout the project, remain vigilant for nails. Despite our efforts to collect them with magnets and tarps, some nails may escape detection. Make a conscious effort to inspect your property during and after the project for any stray nails.
Consider Pets and Animals: Roof replacement can be noisy, which may cause anxiety for pets and animals. Take necessary precautions to ensure their comfort during the construction process.
Access to External Power: For the reasons already mentioned above, you may choose to leave the house during the roof replacement (understandably so, as it can be loud and messy). All that we ask is that we have access to external power and that, if needed, someone is able to let us in within a short time period.
Notify Close Neighbors: As a courtesy, inform your neighbors about the upcoming roof replacement project. This will allow them to prepare accordingly and minimize any inconvenience.
By following these guidelines and being proactive in your preparation, you can ensure a smooth and successful roof replacement project. At A.E. Roofing & Contracting, we are committed to providing quality service and ensuring customer satisfaction every step of the way. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our team.
