At A.E. Roofing & Contracting, protecting a property can mean protecting more than the building itself. Sometimes, it means helping preserve a piece of the community’s history.
This year, we had the opportunity to help Lawton American Legion Waters-Hackenberg Post 220 raise funds for a much-needed new roof on the historic Lawton Train Depot. Located at 404 N. Main Street in Lawton, the depot dates back to 1886 and has served the community for generations.
With support from the American Legion, local sponsors, golfers, volunteers, and community members, the effort became a reality. A.E. Roofing & Contracting was proud to complete the new roof and help protect this historic local building for years to come.
Bringing the Community Together for the Lawton Train Depot

Before work on the new roof began, the community came together to help make the project possible.
On May 30, 2026, the A.E. Roofing & Contracting Open Classic, presented by the Lawton American Legion, was held at Lake Cora Hills Golf Club in Paw Paw.
The four-person golf scramble brought people together for a full day that included breakfast, golf, a silent auction, door prizes, raffles, a catered meal, and awards. More importantly, the event supported efforts to repair and restore the roof of the historic Lawton Train Depot while supporting local veterans and their families.
It was a community effort from beginning to end, and A.E. Roofing & Contracting is grateful to everyone who helped make it possible.
A Much-Needed New Roof for a Historic Building
The Lawton Train Depot has been standing since 1886. Helping protect a building with that much local history made this roofing project especially meaningful to our team.
A dependable roofing system plays an important role in protecting any property and everything beneath it. When a roof has extensive damage or reaches the point where repairs are no longer cost-effective, roof replacement may become necessary.
For the historic Lawton Train Depot, the fundraising effort helped provide the much-needed new roof the building required. A.E. Roofing & Contracting was proud to bring our roofing experience and craftsmanship to the project and help safeguard this piece of Lawton history.
More Than a Roofing Project

A.E. Roofing & Contracting has more than 17 years of experience helping homeowners, business owners, and property managers enhance and protect their properties throughout Southwest Michigan. Putting that experience to work on a project that benefits our local community made this one particularly special.
But this project was about much more than A.E. Roofing & Contracting.
We want to recognize Lawton American Legion Waters-Hackenberg Post 220 and thank the sponsors, golfers, volunteers, and community members who supported the Open Classic and helped make the new roof possible.
Their involvement shows what can happen when a community comes together around a shared goal. The result is not only a new roof but another step toward preserving a building that has been part of Lawton for more than a century.
